Main Building Room 110
Welcome to the webpage for the USCU, Student Academic Success Center. We are excited to be in our brand new location, on the lower floor of the Main Building, Room 110. We offer a wide variety of services for our students and have many exciting things in store for the center. We provide an environment conducive of learning, where all students feel welcome to come in and get the assistance they need. We are all committed to the success of our students and we look forward to working with them.
We are here to help meet the academic needs of our students, by providing the services that we feel are necessary for student success. We are delighted to assist students with requests as simple as providing directions to a class to more complex needs such as assisting students with research.
We have highly qualified tutors who are anxious to help students succeed in their classes. They are available for one-on-one tutoring for most all classes that are offered at USCU, such as Computer Science, Math, Psychology, Biology, Chemistry, Sociology, History, Spanish, Statistics, and Speech. We are also able to guide students while navigating the all-new 24/7 online Brainfuse Tutoring service. Brainfuse allows students access to online tutoring from anywhere, at any time, and it covers any subject that is offered by USC.
We are also very excited to be partnering with Dr. Andrew Piscano in his efforts to revamp the USCU Writing Center. His assistant will be working from the Student Academic Success Center and will be available to assist students with a variety of writing assignments in all USC classes. We also work closely with Brandon Simpson from the Office of Disability Services to provide an environment which accommodates student’s individual learning needs.
The Student Academic Success Center also has a program which enables students to sign out loaner equipment that may be needed to be more successful in their classes. Currently we have digital voice recorders which can be used to record classroom lectures and graphing calculators for use in math classes, which require the calculators. Students have to provide appropriate identification and sign an Equipment Usage Agreement in order to sign out equipment.
The center plans to host Student Success Workshops, which will be designed to address problem areas and concerns that most all college students face. Not only will we cover topics such as note taking skills, time management skills, conquering test anxiety, stress management, and resume & interview skills, but we will also cover topics that may be requested by our students. The center also assists students with completing online employment applications, and will try to assist students who wish to complete informal internships in various employment fields.
