WHY STUDY BIOLOGY?Biology is the study of life. You are alive. Your family and friends are alive. Your pets are alive, and most of the world that you rely on and even love is alive: the food that you eat, the wood in your home and the cotton in your clothes, the spring flowers and fall colors. So, study biology to learn about yourself and the world around you. Study biology to become a better citizen. Modern society is based upon science and the technology that arises from it, and it is difficult to understand fully many of the local, national, and international issues that affect us, without some background in science. Study biology because your major requires it. Biology is a natural science, along with astronomy, chemistry, physics, geology, and marine science, and almost every degree requires at least one year of a natural science.
